The next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 22nd at 7:00 p.m. A NOTE OF THANKS AND FAREWELL: We are losing one of our consistently willing and hard-working Friends who put in many hours of sorting and helping for the book sale this year (my apologies for not giving credit where it was due last month) and who was a member of our Casino Night teams in January, 1992 and February this year. Norma Barnes is moving to White Rock to be nearer her family and to enjoy more freedom to travel. We shall miss you, Norma. Our thanks for all your help and best wishes for happy days ahead. FROM FIRST DAYS TO FIRST RATE: "FOOTPRINTS" NO.5 A Major Expansion: A New Look The West Vancouver Memorial Library was about to enter an especially rapid stage of its development in the Seventies. It would undergo the chaos of major expansion; it would prepare to enter the world of sophisticated technology; it would adjust to the eclectic taste of the changing community. It would also say goodbye to its image of a small neighbourhood library, as it said goodbye to its first librarian who had guided it so well through the early stages of its metamorphosis. In January 1972, Elizabeth Musto suffered a heart attack. As her retirement date was approaching it was agreed that she be granted leave of absence with pay until that date. Council awarded her a Certificate of Appreciation, thanking her for her devotion and unstinting service to the Municipality. She would be missed. To many the West Vancouver Memorial Library was "Mrs. Musto's Library." Ruth Stott took over as Acting Administrator when Mrs. Musto went on sick leave. She had been with the library since September, 1957 and served in her new position until November, 1972 when John Martin was hired as Chief Librarian. ....../2
