BOOK SALE'93 There's no doubt about it, we are getting better all the time' Our second annual effort at the Ice Arena was well executed because we had learned from our experience last year. 3ut there was one new twist in the preparation: due to the Library expansion we were unable to sort books on the premises and suitable places elsewhere were hard to come by. Irene Caudwell's kind offer of space in her basement and carport saved the day, and the first phase started following Victoria Day. We are most grateful to Irene for putting up with this imposition so willingly. Later the second phase started in the Technical Services basement adjoining the Library. Setting up the sale on the Friday was easier this year because the books were delivered right to the Ice Arena floor by a "Budget van (driven expertly by Paul) - whereupon the "worker bees" went into action with dollies and just plain muscles (and backs!) There was some delay between loads from the two sorting locations, but it all got done in the end. Our own regulars (and their husbands) were assisted by a good band of library Volunteers and it made such a difference. Although we set up 57 tables, many books had to be left in boxes on the floor and customers later enjoyed "digging down at floor level. Too bad the Air Cadets were unable to muster more than two that day, but the two girls who turned up were really super -very pleasant, willing and they really worked hard. They really enjoyed it and we had a job to make them stop at the end! Their names were Asha Kartha and Yvette Franc. Closing down on Sunday was also hard work, but we had some wonderful help from family members, also from a few (4 or 5) cadets who did turn up.
