Having done the Newsletter for quite a long time as a lone voice, I am probably getting into somewhat of a rut, so will some good people with ideas or suggestions, and the time to spare for something which (we hope) benefits the Friends and the Library, please give me a call at 926-6570. Thanks. (P.S. I really believe this can be fun!) LIBRARY HOME SERVICE Each year Friends of the Library deliver and pick up about 2,000 books from individuals of all ages (mostly seniors), who are home-bound for one reason or another. On the day of our last meeting September 23rd, the North Shore News carried a nice feature article about this service and the personal selection work done by staff member Roslaynne Fonseca in giving people the books they want to read. There was a photograph of our Friend Mary Boyse with one of her "customers" and we were glad that the Friends were getting some recognition, and, of course, happy for Mary who is a volunteer par excellence. ARTIST'S RECEPTION The next artist's reception will take place on November 2nd, 1992 at 7:30 p.m. The artist will be Lucy Collings. BOOKMOBILE At our last meeting Jack Mounce reported that the new vehicle was nearing completion, with carpeting expected any day and exterior design work continuing. An official launching ceremony is being planned towards the end of November (one afternoon) and the assistance of the Friends will likely be requested for this event. It is hoped that the service can be extended to new locations in the community. (The old vehicle was due to go to a new owner on October 1st, in case you're wondering where it is hiding). LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION Although a few weeks behind schedule (due to congestion on the building site) a March 1993 completion is expected. The building's official opening will possibly occur on a Saturday next April. REMEMBRANCE DAY Regardless of the space restrictions due to construction work, there will be the usual reception in the Library on November 11th, and we should know more about our part in this after our next meeting on October 28th.
