NEWSLETTER No.58 September 1992 Dear Friend of the Library, Hullo again after two wonderful months of real summer - and then, suddenly it seemed as if someone decided to get 'power smart' about all that heat and suddenly switched it off again. Oh well, I just hope we get one of our Indian summers through October. (But it was nice wasn't it, and great for the contractors working on the Library expansion). VOLUNTEER FOR THE MEMORIAL LIBRARY FOUNDATION The Memorial Library Foundation would like a volunteer to take minutes at their meetings which are held every second Wednesday of the month from approx. 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Knowledge of shorthand not necessary. If you are interested, please contact Eileen de Bues at 922-6446. A CAUTIONARY TALE ("THE BEST-CELLAR LIST") "Because I may want to read it again someday" is the reasoning my husband, Frank, uses to keep every book he has ever read. Over 25 years most of them, never picked up again after their first reading, have accumulated in our basement, and under no circumstances was I to throw them out. One day, however, figuring he'd never notice their absence, I donated most of the pocket books to a booksale. I stood admiring my clean, empty basement when unexpectedly I heard Frank call down to me, "I'm home early so I can get to the booksale before it closes." While he was gone, I prepared for the worst. But when he arrived home empty-handed, I asked if there hadn't been any books that had interested him. "Yes, there were lots of good ones," he replied, "but I have them all." (Reader's Digest)
