NEWSLETTER No. 40 December 1990 Dear Friend of the Library, JUST A THOUGHT A little library, growing larger every year, is an honourable part of a young man's history. It is a man's duty to have books. A library is not a luxury, but one of the necessaries of life. (H.W. Beecher 1813-1887) An honourable part of West Vancouver's history. CHRISTMAS 1. A Christmas card shows Rudolph (the R-N) Reindeer, lying on a psychiatrist's couch. He says: "I can't take it any more ..... the whippings ..... the constant Ho-Ho-Ho's." 2. Heap on more wood! - the wind is chill; But let it whistle as it will, We'll keep our Christmas merry still. (Sir Walter Scott 1771-1832) Hopefully, once the attacks of Pre-Christmas Syndrome have subsided at your house, you will be able to "heap on more wood" (assuming we are still allowed to enjoy a wood fire in this pollution-conscious society) and keep a Christmas that is merry and, we trust, peaceful. Before you fall asleep from sheer exhaustion and/or a delightful generosity of good food and drink (don't drive), you will almost certainly look back to other happy times and reminisce, or just plain reflect. Sooner or later all good Friends of the Library will reflect on the numerous things we have done to help our Library during 1990, and on the satisfaction (and often fun) we have had in doing them.
