NEWSLETTER No. 39 November 1990 Dear Friend of the Library, I'm sure we would all extend our warmest appreciation to Betty Neilson for organizing the Fall book sale, and to Lois Kilburn for her truly marvellous 'catering' at the Open House following the Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph. Thanks are also due to the indomitable Air Cadets who worked so hard (again) at bringing all the book sale material up from the Dungeon and helping to set it all up. And finally, many thanks to all the Friends who assisted at the book sale, the 40th anniversary celebrations, and the Remembrance Day Open House. The next meeting of the Friends will be Wednesday, November 28, 7 p.m. in the Seminar Room. Until then, Charles B. Corbet, Editor If I may add a footnote to Charles' letter with my personal appreciation of the group of Friends who worked with such dedication and good humour over the two days that had the anniversary on Saturday and the open house os Sunday. The kitchen crew even managed to have fun while washing up all those cups after Saturday's party so they would be ready for 11:30 on Sunday morning. It is the same with the book sale, whether sorting books in the chilly dungeon, setting them out on tables on the day before the sale or trying to keep from getting under the feet of the hard working Library staff, on the actual days of selling, the good humour remains intact. All those occasions were, I think, very successful and appreciated by Library members who were present. Eileen de Bues, President At the risk of sounding really repetitive, let me echo what Charles and Eileen have said: the recent book sale, 40th anniversary party and Remembrance Day reception represent a major contribution on the part of a very hard working but invariably jolly group from within the Friends' membership. For fear of omitting someone, I won't name names, but your impact on the wellbeing of the Memorial Library has never been greater and I thank you on behalf of the Board, staff and patrons for helping to make this Library the exceptional place that it is. Jack Mounce, Chief Librarian
