NEWSLETTER No. 37 September 1990 Dear Friend of the Library, - well, here we are in another September. I suppose Septembers have an individual meaning for each of us; for some, it is the end of holidays and back to work, for some it is (dare I say it?), back to school, but for me it signifies the beginning again of meetings of "the Friends" on the fourth Wednesday of the month and the writing and editing of the Friends' newsletter. There are only three items on the agenda for this letter. - Firstly the September meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 26th, at 7 p.m. in the Seminar Room of the Library, so be sure to mark it on your calendar. - Second, the semi-annual book sale will be on October 28, 29 and 30th with a preview for members from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday the 27th. Betty Neilson and a group of Friends are already sorting books in the Library "dungeon" in readiness for the event. Finally, the annual Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held on Sunday, November 11th, at the cenotaph followed by the usual "Open House" in the Library. If you would like to help with the serving of tea/coffee/cookies etc. to the dignitaries afterwards, and get a warm, dry, inside view of the proceedings, please let Eileen de Bues know (922-6446). I look forward to seeing you at this month's meeting. Charles B. Corbet, MLS, MDiv. Editor If I may add a few words to Charles' letter, just to remind everyone that on Saturday, November 10th, there will be a very special 'party day' to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Memorial Library - lots of interesting things will be going on; a more detailed notice will be included in the next newsletter. The manager of Volunteer Services, Alice Bacon, would like to hear from anyone who is interested in helping to stack paperback books on an on-going, on-call basis; her telephone number is 922-3897.
