NEWSLETTER No. 36 July 1990 Dear Friend: According to the calendar we are now into the long, lazy days of summer and, hopefully, before we get to our next meeting in September the weather will have decided to co-operate. We did, however, have a pleasant day on the 1st July and quite a number of people took the time to stop and have a look at the very interesting books on the library's display table, just outside the ferry building, during the Canada Day celebrations. On the subject of books you may be interested to know that all the "Adopted Books" now have the "Adopter's" name in them and a dozen Friends have spent a total of 170 hours busy with lots of glue to achieve this. It has been quite a fun job - albeit a trifle sticky - and we all discovered sections of the Library we had not explored before while searching for suitable books. The paperback book sale was a great success and Betty Neilson, our organizing genius, was interested to note how much people seemed to enjoy going through the unpacked boxes of books under the tables as much as they did looking through the ones on top. I am wondering what is going through her mind for the Big Sale in October! We raised the sum of $880 and, at our Treasurer's suggestion, another $1,000 has been donated to the Fund Raising Campaign. Now - I hope you all enjoy the rest of the summer and, as always, you will be very welcome at our next meeting on Wednesday, 26th September. Eileen de Bues Chairman
