NEWSLETTER No. 33 April 1990 Dear Friend: I wonder how many of you, travelling on Taylor Way or across Lion's Gate Bridge in the "fairly" early hours of April 3rd or April 4th, found your day enlivened by the sight of some well-known local folk waving placards and balloons and presenting as many people as they could reach with pledge cards? They even attracted the attention of a passing helicopter crew, who rapidly lost interest when it was discovered that this was not an organised (or even dis-organised) protest of some kind. I, unfortunately, missed all this fun but I believe that the Public Awareness Committee of the Special Edition campaign certainly succeeded in making some early morning public well aware of our Library's Capital Campaign. At another time and in another (quieter) place, a group of Friends were also helping to keep W.V. Library in the public eye. I'm sure many of you will have seen some of us at the Library Display in Park Royal at the Seniors in Action weekend. Many thanks to Pat Scrivener for her scheduling efforts and also to all of you who arrived in good time at your appointed hour! Starting this week, you may notice little groups of Friends sitting in the Library, busy sticking Book Plates in the front of "Adopted books" -- please stop and say Hullo, because it is always nice to meet a Friend. Remember -- our meetings are held on the last Wednesday of the month (the next one thus taking place on April 25) in the seminar room at 7 p.m., and the coffee -- made by our Chief Librarian -- is excellent.
