NEWSLETTER No. 32 March 1990 Dear Friend: How quickly the weeks rush by ... can we really be nearly into April and already Betty Neilson is beginning to prepare for the Paperback Book Sale which will be held on the last Saturday in June. We have 600 "Book Plates" as a result of the Adopt-a-Book scheme and these are waiting for us to gather a team of Friends to put them into the appropriate books ... all offers of help will be gratefully received. Then, of course, there will be THE Book Sale (October 28-30), add to all this the upcoming 40th anniversary celebrations in November and - you see - the year is almost gone! I think the phoning committee is going to have a busy time during the next few months. Our next meeting is on the 28th March at 7 o'clock in the Seminar Room and, as always, you are all welcome to be there. Eileen de Bues Chairman Chief Librarian's Report If I can get in the last word following Eileen de Bues' remarks, I'll just add that the paperback sale is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June 23, and Sunday, the 24th (assuming that we have enough discarded books on hand to sustain a 1 1/2 day sale). This being the first year that we're operating on Sundays to the end of June (previously having closed down at the end of April), it seemed like a good idea to extend the sale to Sunday afternoon. Especially if the sun is shining, as we hope to have it on the front patio of the Library as in previous years. The Special Edition Capital Campaign is now entering its final phase and is to be publicized a little more widely. Library Board Chairman Bob Wyckham will be interviewed on Cable 10 T.V. shortly and the Public Awareness Committee is planning a morning rush hour placard-waving event to raise awareness about the campaign on April 3rd and 4th. There'll be lots of signs, balloons and placards, but more people are always welcome. The hour will be somewhat grim (beginning about 7 a.m. and continuing until about 9 a.m. each morning), but at least the sun will be up by then! It should actually be quite jolly and anyone able to take part is asked to call Suzanne at the campaign office - 926-2013. By the time you read this the annual Seniors in Action display at Park Royal will have come and gone (March 22-24) and once again members of the Friends will have helped out by "manning" (dangerous word these days, I know) the Library's display. I really appreciate this effort each year because taking information about our services out into the community is one of the most important things we do. So - thanks again for being Friends!
