NEWSLETTER No. 31 February 1990 Dear Friend: Despite inclement weather, 18 of us attended the annual general meeting of the Friends on January 24. This represents about 14% of our 1989 membership, not an overwhelming proportion but not too bad if one assumes that a crowded AGM often reflects an unhappy membership. We shall assume that ours is not. However, those of you who missed it should feel unhappy at missing the wine and cheese party that followed the meeting and made the evening the gustatory treat that it was. Our thanks many times over to Lois Kilburn who did the baking (marvellous petit-fours, Lois); Anne Fletcher who assembled the various cheeses including one of her own creation - Anne, you said you'd give me the recipe and I'm waiting on pins and needles; and Jack Mounce who arranged the quite excellent spectrum of wines. The new slate of directors is in the accompanying minutes so I won't waste Dorothy Jones' time by asking her to retype what's already prepared. Our next meeting will be on February 28th (last Wednesday of the month) at 7:00 p.m. in the Seminar Room. I hope to see you there. Now for a little business prior to the meeting, when it will be properly moved etc. - but just for now something to churn over once or twice. There are approximately 48,000 card holders at the West Vancouver Memorial Library. There are approximately 100 Friends of the Library. Surely we could find ways to actively promote the "Adopt-a-book" programme. The book plates need not necessarily reflect the donor's name, they could be given "in loving memory of ...". The point is to raise funds by this and other programmes for the expansion of the Library. With 48,000 card holders, at $10 a book we're looking at close to half a million dollars - but we've got to buckle down and get ourselves organized. Any thoughts would be very gratefully appreciated. Until February 28th, Charles B. Corbet Editor ******** March Art Exhibit: "West Coast Spirit - from Flowers to Fishermen" by Anne-Marie Nehring. A reception will be held on Thursday, March 1st, from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
