temporarily before new carpeting was laid in the Library. A group of us helped with the Bookmobile Birthday Party in April, and also the Opening Ceremonies of the Special Edition Fund Raising Campaign in October. We purchased and presented to the local Air Cadets the trophies which are to be awarded each year to outstanding individuals who help move books for our book sales. We have been made aware of a Library volunteer programme which is still being organized by the Library Board and is expected to be initiated in the New Year. When this goes ahead there will be opportunities for more direct involvement in assisting the staff with library work. We are now being asked for help in the important New Edition Fund Raising Campaign, in particular helping to staff the 'Adopt-A-Book' desk in the Library, which is a great way for individual citizens of West Vancouver to contribute to the expansion of the Library at $10.00 a time. There are other ways we can help with fund raising generally, and anyone interested should contact the Campaign Office at 926-2013. So we haven't exactly been idle during the past year. Next year we hope to raise a substantial sum by holding two Casino Nights in Vancouver, but this is some time off as the necessary application to the Provincial Government takes months to be approved. We shall, I hope, continue to make ourselves useful in more and more ways as we go along. Meanwhile, I do thank all who have given loyal and dedicated service and support, and send you all Season's Greetings and Best Wishes for a Happy and Successful New Year. Don't forget our Annual General Meeting and get-together on January 24th, 1990. Tony Scammell President ********** On behalf of the Board and staff of the Memorial Library, I would like to extend best wishes for a Happy Holiday Season to all of you. The direct and indirect support provided by the Friends is always a key factor in the success of Library events and activities end this has never been more evident than during 1989. It's been an exciting busy year for all of us, with 1990 showing promise of being even more pivotal in the evolution of our Library. As it happens, November 11, 1990 is also our 40th birthday, so we'll need help to celebrate the event in appropriate fashion. My thanks to Tony and the hard working activists, and to the silent members too, for being the Friends of the West Vancouver Memorial Library. Jack Mounce Chief Librarian
