NEWSLETTER No. 29 November 1989 Dear Friend of the Library: We have recently been involved in two very public occasions, both intimately concerned with the Library, its status and purpose in our community. The people of West Vancouver have looked back in thankful remembrance of all those who gave their lives so that we might live and grow in peace; they have also looked forward to the new challenge of enabling our Library to grow and serve the community as a worthy Memorial Library should. On November 11th, we hosted the refreshments in the Library after the Cenotaph ceremony. The morning was cool but mercifully dry for long enough, and a good crowd turned out. We estimated that over 300 souls came in for the traditionally warm and friendly gathering, and this year was no exception, thanks to those loyal Friends who helped set it all up and make it work, and, of course, Jack Mounce and his staff. On October 29th, the Special Edition (fund-raising) Campaign Kick-Off was a spirited and lively occasion. We were part of the outside events this time (on a rather draughty roof car-park), and again a loyal band of Friends braved the chill and served hot drinks and cookies to an appreciative audience, including the various bands and performers whose music kept our morale intact. Thanks again to "the Few" (never was so much owed to so many ... etc.). On this occasion the refreshments were donated by Safeway as part of their community contribution, and we wish to record our appreciation. December Art Exhibit; Recent watercolours by Brenda Hewer. A reception will be held on Friday, December 1st, from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Our next meeting is on Wednesday, November 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. in the Seminar Room. We look forward to seeing you then, especially because there will be no meeting in December (yes, it's that time againl). In the New Year, on January 24th, 1990, all being well, we will have our Annual General Meeting at 7:00 p.m., which will involve a minimum of official business and a nice dose of wine and cheese, and good company no doubt. Hoping to see you next Wednesday, November 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. Tony Scammell President
