NEWSLETTER No. 24 April 1989 Dear Friend of the Library: Now that our membership is already over one hundred and growing, we are entering a new phase in the life of the Friends of the Library. I want to say a warm word of welcome to all our new members and thanks to all who have renewed their memberships. We now have an impressive list of those willing to help in specific ways. Up to now we have needed to be concerned with gaining experience in a number of basic tasks, such as book sales, the gift shop, art gallery receptions, Remembrance Day functions and so on. This has meant that our attention and efforts have been concentrated on "making things work" and our monthly meetings have been mainly business rather than pleasure or general interest for the membership at large. So now I want to let you know that we are concentrating on putting together some kind of general programme that will appeal to our whole membership, that is a blend of things that are interesting and worthwhile and, we hope, fun. This is aimed at monthly meetings later in the year primarily. I am inviting a small group of members who have indicated an interest in programme assistance to attend a special meeting (instead of our regular monthly meeting) on Wednesday, April 26th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Seminar Room to start planning in outline. May I ask for your kind co-operation and consideration in thinking about this and letting us have your ideas and suggestions. The possibilities are many, and at the outset we are thinking in terms of getting interesting speakers, with slide shows where appropriate, on a wide variety of subjects.
