BUSY, BUSY, BUSY! Grace Kravac We are extremely fortunate to have so many interesting and varied free programmes sponsored by our Library. The Friends of the Library serve punch and cookies to hundreds of patrons who attend the Friday Night Concert Series which is a legacy of the Library's benefactor, Robert Leslie Welsh. On Movie Nights the volunteers serve fresh popcorn to the faithful patrons who also enjoy the stimulating exchange of ideas after the movie. The engaging author visits usually attract a crowd of 50 or more, who are served coffee and cookies by the Friends. It is a pleasure to volunteer at these events and Co-ordinator Edda Davis, always manages to have an enthusiastic roster of volunteers to draw from. Please call Edda i f you wish to volunteer for any of these events (606)9223755. Another successful September Book Sale netted $4,165. From the beginning of this year to November 25 , the Book Cart sales totalled $13,427. Thank you to all the volunteers who work tirelessly in "The Pit", especially Co-ordinators Noreen Avery and Barbara Drummond. Peggy Keene, who astutely prices the "red dot books", and Patricia Treadwell, Co-ordinator of the volunteers who restock the cart daily. Last, but not least, the dependable volunteers who keep the book cart stocked and tidy, at least until the patrons get into it! It is this co-operative team work that makes the Book Cart so successful. Margaret Mould, Adult Department and Coordinator of Seniors' Services announced the replacement of the retired Bookmobile by a new eco-friendly "Runabout". As the Library's Home Delivery Service is becoming more in demand, Margaret needs volunteers to make deliveries in areas further afield. Please call her if you are able to volunteer for this invaluable service - one that we may all need some day, (604)912-7437. Remembrance Day ran true to form with the cold, pelting rain. Can you imagine the soldiers of the past, out in the field defending our freedom in these extreme weather conditions? And we complain because we are standing out there for an hour and there is no hot coffee! It was a time to reflect on our good fortune. The Dundarave Players soon made everyone forget how miserable it was outside, as the sing-a-long commenced and refreshments were served. Many thanks to all the volunteers who contributed to the organization, sewing and clean-up. It was great to have members from the Teen Advisory Group, and Leo Hubner's home-stay students. Ann Goodhart, Director of Library Services, and Marcia Bergen, Board Trustee, had the honour of laying the wreath at the Cenotaph for the Library. The membership has approved the 2009 project list, which has been approved by the Library Board and submitted by Ann Goodhart, at our November meeting.
