NEWSLETTER No. 21 December 1988 Dear Friend of the Library; The first item on this Letter's agenda is an overview of our past year's performance, and who better to write such an appreciation than our Esteemed President; so without further ado, here's Tony: Another year of growing and learning is nearly over and we are definitely on our way. I want to thank you all for your support and interest in what we are trying to do for the Library. As with most volunteer organizations, we have a relatively small dedicated group who make things tick, but they can't do without the willing support and dedication of other members. Many of you have given invaluable help with the book sale, which was a great success, with the Gift Shop, at the Remembrance Day reception, with the receptions for the monthly Art Exhibits and assisting in the Library generally when needed - well done Friends! I want to assure you that all our work is greatly appreciated by everyone - and we have fun tool We will take a closer look at everything in our various Reports to the Annual General Meeting on January 25th, 1989. While we are encouraged by our progress so far, there is one problem which we must work on, and that is public relations - we have to raise the profile of the Friends of the Library. Our low-key approach has hindered our effectiveness in a number of ways, especially in the Gift Shop, which also has visibility problems due to present space limitations. A Public Relations Committee has been formed under the Chairmanship of Heather Ireland, our Library Board liaison member, and its first meeting was held on December 6th, 1988. Objectives were set out and proposals for a comprehensive programme of publicity and events were discussed. More about this later. In the meantime, I send you Season's Greetings and Best Wishes for a Happy and Successful New Year. See you on January 25th. Tony Scammell President
