NEWSLETTER No. 19 October 19, 1988 Dear Friend of the Library: There are really only three items of major importance to report on this month, yet so much depends on each of these that they in fact constitute an umbrella for all other topics. However, before entering a discussion of any of the three, we must extend our hearty congratulations to Friend No. 50, Mrs. Rupert Wyckham, whose number was pulled from a container holding tickets with each of the (now) 106 members' numbers, by Jack Mounce, Chief Librarian, at the September 28th meeting. Mrs. Wyckham is now the owner of a handsome clock-radio, which will be presented to her on Thursday, October 20th, during the "media event" associated with the Library's transfer of books into storage at Hillside School. And so to the major items which are "Incorporation under the Society Act", the Gift Shop and the Book Sale. ********** Incorporation; Pursuant to the resolution adopted on September 28th (as reported in the minutes of that meeting under the heading No. 9) the following people met on October 5th, 1988, at Tony's house to sign the Application for the Document of Incorporation: Tony Scammell, Anne Fletcher, Marie McWhirter, Erskine Blackburn and Charles Corbet The signatures were witnessed by Mrs. and Miss Scammell. Anne produced a bank draught for $50 which she had purchased earlier that day; and the documents were sealed up for mailing the next day. So now, the five members who signed the application are, pending approval of the application, the first Directors-elect of the Friends of the West Vancouver Memorial Library Society. There is nothing magical about the number five (at least in this context), it is simply the minimum number the Act allows for the purpose of signing an application. We foresee in the near future the election of further directors, as well as the attendance of general members at Board meetings.
