May I urge you to come along and share your ideas on this important subject, namely the basic purposes of our group and how we can put them on a firm footing as a basis for growth and meaningful activities to help the Library serve the citizens of West Vancouver. We are required to have a Constitution and By-laws if we are to be incorporated as a non-profit Society. The reason we are seeking incorporation is, in a nutshell, to protect the members from individual and joint liability in the event of the bankruptcy of the Shop. If unincorporated, in the event of such an occurrence, Messrs. Scammell, Corbet, Blackburn and all others who are members of the Friends of the Library at the time would be required to "ante up" sufficient funds to satisfy the (proveable) demands of the Shop's creditors. However, once incorporated, the creditors would have to be satisfied with taking the Shop's assets and dividing them amongst themselves (at a rate, say, of 17 cents on the dollar) and not having recourse to the membership. Another important benefit to us is that the Shop will be legally entitled to a Certificate of Exemption from the Provincial Sales Tax - enabling it to buy from wholesalers without paying the 6%, and thus enhancing its mark-up on articles sold. The meeting will be an abbreviated one, with coffee, biscuits, and mimeographed copies of the Constitution and By-laws available. ********** There will be a SALE of POCKET BOOKS on Saturday, June 25th in the Front Patio - go through the main doors and then turn left instead of right -it will be held from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Price 25 cents per book.
