Tony went on to describe the process, quite clearly and with that certain, restrained enthusiasm which (from Tony) means he was very excited about it, by which the logo is set up by the computer to be printed on various garments (Penman's golf-shirts, sweat-shirts and acrylic sweaters in a variety of colours and sizes). Later on, as the Shop Committee has a chance to analyse potential demand, the Shop will be stocking tee-shirts, baseball caps - or simply sun-visors - as well as canvas tote-bags, bookmarks, etc. There is also some thought being given to Christmas cards, tennis balls and golf balls. One of Anne Fletcher's lapidary acquaintances is amenable to the idea of selling 'bolo' ties on consignment, and I understand that Ian Rowles, whose photographs are on display until the end of the month, is considering a similar arrangement with greeting cards featuring his work. The Next Art Show will open March 31st. The opening will be between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. and will feature Valerie Brouwer's recent work in oils and watercolours. Valerie is a well-known and talented artist and we are very privileged to have her show. ******** The last art show, featuring Unity Bainbridge's work, was very successful indeed. Four paintings were sold during the course of the show and the Memorial Library Trust Fund received a donation of $442.25 from the artist. Cups and Saucers Heather Ireland suggested we purchase five dozen cups and saucers at a special price of 99 cents each. The sample she brought was very attractive. As it is now, we rent them for $15/month, so after four months, we're in the black, as it were. (The only way to drink coffee!) Her proposal was moved, seconded and carried enthusiastically. THE GIFT SHOP NEEDS A CO-ORDINATOR - someone to keep an eye on supplies of merchandise and to re-order as necessary. This would take just a few hours a week (or less, depending on one's efficiency). If one could keep the Shop's books, so much the better. All Friends will get a 10% discount on purchases so keep your cards handy when visiting the Library and Shop. A message from Jack Mounce: "The Memorial Library will be participating in a display at Park Royal of West Van's services for seniors, March 24 to 26 inclusive. We'll have large photos illustrating the Bookvan, large print and home delivery services for instance and would like to have some help manning the display, handing out Taped Books and Home Delivery brochures and noting names and phone numbers of people who express interest in these activities. "With someone in attendance, we'd also be able to have examples of taped books and large print volumes on hand, and possibly even a presentation on West Van's history. "Because of the nature of the display, I would expect it to attract more interest than the previous Friends table at Park Royal. If anyone is interested in helping out with this, particularly on the Thursday or Friday evening or Saturday afternoon would you please phone Dorothy at the Library (926-3291) and let her know? Many thanks!" The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 30, 1988 7 p.m. in the Seminar Room Charles Corbet Newsletter Editor P.S. To all of you fans of the Dark Ages, may I heartily recommend Mary Stewart's trilogy on the (intertwined) lives of Merlin and King Arthur: The Crystal Cave; The Hollow Hills; and The Last Enchantment.
