NEWSLETTER No. 12 March 1988 Dear Friend of the Library: Quite a long meeting, our last one; one might almost say 'pro-trac-ted'; but very fruitful, none-the-less, in terms of ideas and information. We welcomed a new Friend, Bob Todd, among the 14 or 15 of us who gathered together that night (down somewhat, I regret to say, from the January turnout ....). Since we are still lacking a recording secretary, Pat Scrivener most generously offered to do the job this once, and I'm sure we all will give her a vote of appreciation for her efforts. Your Reporter had remembered to bring a little note-pad (and pen) this time, so he took some notes as well. The Chief Librarian's Report was submitted (in absentia) and duly 'received' - we decided that was the appropriate word - and the highlights were discussed. - The next book-sale is tentatively set for Sunday, May 1 - Tuesday, May 3. That gives us about 6 weeks, so try to keep your appointment books clear. The last one was great fun - one lady came through with three(!) liquor cartons overflowing with books. - Concerning the Library Expansion: both the architect's feasibility study and a fundraising feasibility study have been completed and the W.V. Council is now awaiting a recommendation for a development option from its General Services Committee. The Library Foundation is planning a fundraising campaign for later use. How would you like to do some soliciting (no! no! not that kind ...). - The range of Volunteer Services is expected to expand in the near future, probably with the direction of a (paid) Volunteer Coordinator. This will take place one step at a time, and one hopes that in the ranks of the Volunteers, one will see many Friend-ly Faces. The New Logo made its appearance in print at the head of last meeting's agenda and Dorothy Jones - a marvellous Word-Processor -assures me it will also be included in this month's Newsletter. The logo is the prize-winning design of Christina Kristensen of the Emily Carr College of Art and Design; who was awarded $100 for her effort. Well done, Christina! Supplies for the Gift Shop Following an excursion to Richmond with Betsy, Pat and Eileen, Tony described the range of goods that could be supplied and gave some illustrative prices; which, summed up briefly is "The more one buys, the less the unit cost'.
