PROGRESS Our range of activities is expanding slowly but surely. Looking back over the past year, it's interesting to see the variety of our activities and concerns, including distribution of a booklet on the Library Home Service, participation in several 75th anniversary events, contribution of $1,350 to the Library's Summer Reading Programme for Children, assistance with the reception on Remembrance Day for those attending the Cenotaph ceremonies, planning for the operation of a Friends' gift shop in the Library (for which an anonymous donor has provided us with a fine display case) and, of course, those book sales - three so far - in late 1986, early 1987 and late 1987. SO FAR SO GOOD Apart from gaining new members, knowledge and experience, confidence and team spirit, we have helped to raise close to $9,500 for the Library. In addition to book sale receipts, our revenue includes membership dues, bank interest and some "royalties" from the sales in the Library of the book "A Place of Excellence", Bruce Ramsey's History of West Vancouver. In due course we shall discuss with the Library Board the ways the funds should be used for the benefit of the Library. LOOKING AHEAD TO 1988 We have made a good start, and although some may think we are making haste rather slowly, we now have a good foundation for carrying on to bigger and better things. The Friends who have come forward and offered their time and talents have all done a super job, and had fun doing it (yes, even sorting books in the dungeon is not really that bad!). We look forward to steady, successful progress in 1988. NEXT MEETING There is no meeting this month. Our Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 1988. After a short business meeting and election of our Executive for 1988, the agenda will consist entirely of "wine and cheese" and mingling of Friends. Please make a note of the date as soon as Santa delivers your new diary, and plan to come - all (100) of you -and then we'll know that the Seminar Room is too small! Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to ALL our Friends, and to our special "tutors" and helpers Jack Mounce, Dawn Sikula, (and from the Library staff) Dorothy Jones and Chris Berger.
