LIBRARY EXPANSION A team of library consultants studied the Memorial Library during 1986 and concluded that it is seriously over-crowded and operating beyond the capacity of its building. There are simply too many volumes in our collection and we make too many loans for the size of our physical structure. The Library Board began the long process of planning for expansion of the facility. "A tremendous amount of energy must be harnessed if an addition to the Library is to be constructed in 1991. The need for action is immediate." (Robert G. Wyckham, Chairman, Library Board, in his annual report.) * *' Mr. Wyckham will present and explain the consultants' report at the next meeting of the Friends of the Library at 7.00 p.m. on February 11th, 1987. PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF THIS DATE AND ATTEND IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN - IT IS A FASCINATING PRESENTATION AND SETS THE SCENE FOR THE PART WE WILL PLAY IN PUBLICITY AND FUND-RAISING^ LIBRARY FOUNDATION To assist in the long-term needs of the Library, the Memorial Library Foundation of West Vancouver has been formed. The initial objective of the Foundation will be to organize a campaign to raise one million dollars, of the two to three million needed for expanding the building. In the long term, the Foundation will seek to endow the Library so that the needs of the people of our Municipality can be met in a manner they have come to expect. WHATEVER SHALL WE DO? Friends of the Library have many choices of enjoyable, worthwhile and, yes, important things to do. For instance: - our next Book Sale begins on April 26, 1987 (the last day of Sunday opening this Spring) - help in sorting and organizing will be needed soon: - delivering books to home-bound patrons - we are gearing up for this and need volunteers with cars: - conducting tours of the Library - why not take an orientation tour yourself, it's a real eye-openeri - spreading the word and encouraging your friends to become "Friends". The Library needs people like us. We can do great things together. Come to our next monthly meeting on February 11th at 7.00 p.m., hear an excellent presentation by the Chairman of the Library Board, Bob Wyckham, and experience the enthusiasm and friendship of the Friends of the Library and get involved!
