With the school holidays behind us, the library has made a good start on building its computer database for the Automated Library Control System. At this point the staff have put over 25,000 bibliographic records (that's all the information you see on a catalogue card) into the computer's memory bank. Each book has a barcode label attached as it is `computerized'. Over 6,000 borrowers have completed registration forms for their new permanent library cards, which will also sport barcode labels. If you have not registered, forms are available at the check--out desk. These should be completed and returned. All new books are now being catalogued in the computer, and not by the laborious catalogue card route, which is a great saving.
