SPECIAL STORY HOUR For all ages. Wednesday, March 30 at 10:30 a.m. & 3:30 p.m. * nws VANDALISM IN THE LIBRARY A sad note for West Vancouver's book lovers: we have been subjected to a wave of book mutilation during the past several months. Every library experiences this type of selfish destruction from time to time, and anyone who encounters the result suffers, whether librarian or frustrated patron. Those who remove plates from fine art works, or mindlessly tear out charts or photographs or entire sections from encyclopedias, are performing a particular disservice to others. Judging from what is removed, the motivation appears to be a wish to save l5 on the cost of a photocopy, or to avoid the bother of taking notes. As we've indicated, this problem has been worse than usual recently. It's impossible to know how widespread the damage has been, but we've found a number of important and expensive works rendered virtual ly worthless in this way. There is not a great deal that can be done about it heightened surveillance by staff would be expensive, objectionable and in effectual. Please note - Limit of 50 in audience.
