Please phone 926--3291, local 15, to register for this upcoming program times to be arranged. -- For some time now our computer has apprised us of the large numbers of books that are missing from our collections. Over the years, thousands of items have disappeared, presumably carried out of the building by people who did not sign them out. A short time ago the Municipal Council endorsed the Library Board's decision to equip the Memorial Library with an elec tronic security system, one that will activate an alarm and automatically lock the exit gate when someone seeks to remove a book without signing it out correctly. Thus the Memorial Library reluctantly joins the growing ranks of those libraries ich are forced by the actions of a few 4 monitor the traffic leaving the prem ises. Patrons are asked to be understanding and patient as we all adjust to the new system. Implementation of security measures will not only save all of us taxpayers thousands of dollars in lost books annually, but it will also result in an improved library service.
