Friday, Feb. 14 at 10:30 a.m. Now that all the figures are in for 1985, we can report that for the fourth year in succession our patrons established new records for utilization of the Memorial Library. You borrowed a book or other item at the rate of 234 every hour we were open, for a total of 704,746. Reference questions topped 80,000, or one every 2* minutes. No wonder it seemed busy! A 1% drop in the Librarys operating budget from the 1984 level meant that we were unable to add as many new books and other materials as we would have liked. We'll hope for better success in 1986. Because of our budget problems, we were compelled to raise some of our fees and irges during the year, in an effort to generate more revenue. Doubling the cost of reserving a book, from 50 cents to $1.00, proved to be the most unpopular of these increases. We also found that it didnt succeed as a means of increasing revenues at all, so we've now reverted to the 5Oç reserve. Sorry about the other charges.
