Happy New Year to you all! workshops Graphic Designer & Freelance Writer Wannabes Take Note The Arts Promotion Board-sponsored workshops are continuing through 1994. beginning with a few holdovers from last Designing to a Budget The graphic design workshop was so wellattended (and just as many wanted to but couldn't make it that day) that we have decided to offer it again. And because four hours wasn't nearly enough time to cover all of the material and answer questions and give feedback on participants' design projects, we have extended it to six. spread over two mornings. Ron Woodward, a freelance designer and instructor with SFU'S Harbour Centre, will again be leading the Designing to a Budget workshop. In two short sessions (January 25th & February 1st), he will cover the basics of graphic design and production. and--and this is what I like best about working with Ron--share with you the textbooks, namely all the hard lessons he has learned over the years. He is also more than happy to share his wisdom regarding the pros and cons ol Maes vs PCs. and of I'.rjcm.iker \s Quark Express. On Tuesday, January 25th. Ron will discuss basic layout and design principles, the fundamentals of typography, and how to use basic formats and grids. February 1st. he will focus on printing processes, using photos and illustrations effectively, and dealing with printers (getting and choosing quotes, how to prepare artwork for the printer, etc.) Both sessions are from 9:30 am-l2:30 pm.
