front Getting the Arts Online I have been to [WO computer information sessions in the past few weeks. Both were about electronic networks, and both were geared specifically to the arts community The Vancouver Cultural Alliance (VCA) hosted the first one. to introduce its members to Cybcrstore, a new online information system. For a smalt yearly fee (which increases if you or your VCA), subscribers (numbering approximately 700) can send and receive electrons mail, engage in hscls dehalcs on topic-specific bulletin boards, browse through and copy shareware files, and post information on community billboards. The second meeting was held by the Vancouver Regional Frecnct Association (VFRA). whose network should be up and running by the end of the year. The basic services that VFRA has to offer aren't that different from Cybcrstore, but they will have far greaterreach(they expect some 4000 members within the first few months) and--as the name suggests--they arc entirely free. My hunch is that Freenet i more u-i'i lncndh. but it's noi real Is a matter of choosing between one or the other--if getting the word out about an event is (he issue, then it's best to get it to as many different sources as possible e DM before, hut for e-mail purposes, not to find oui what was happening (ulturall) thai evening or lo "borrow" a book from the "library l i s incredible Iliere aie "e journals" that you can send your latcsl article to, and if the "editor" likes it, it will gel "published."
