Plans are in the making to have volunteer guides present programs to visiting schoolchildren. The hands-on learning experiences included in the children's program will range from practicing household chores as Grandpa and Grandma knew them to discovering hand logging skills and our waterfront industries. Putting a crosscut saw and apple peeler to work are just some of the activities. Volunteers who are able to make a oneyear commitment will find the experience to be a lot of fun as well as educational. Cross Over Writers Program Writers from the West have a final opportunity to apply for funding through Telefilm Canada's Cross Over Writers Program. The application deadline is November 30th. The Program offers experienced writers currently working in literary fields other than screenwriting an opportunity to develop a first draft of a feature film script. Writers can apply directly to Telefilm for a maximum amount of $10,000, including a script editor's fee. Writers are encouraged to develop a first draft, feature film script from an original idea or from a Canadian published work or produced play. To be eligible for this program, prose fiction writers must have published at least six short stories or one novel. Playwrights must have had productions of at least two separate titles of a duration of at least two weeks at a theatre company which receives operating funds from the Canada Council. Backstage '93 Theatre BC Workshops Theatre B C is hosting a weekend of workshops November 12-14.
