As Colin Thomas of The Georgia Straight wrote, "gargling Guiness. weaving endless stones and breaking into song. Shay unabashedly loves both his work and Brendan Behan, the man he honors with it." At that time. Confessions had already been performed over 4000 limes, but Shay hadn't lost his touch. "He's still as adroit as 12 A m Acte». Jui»/Au«u>t 1993 ever with Bchan's material, still as roguish with the bawdy and die blasphemy, still as touching in his evocation of Behan's lifeloving defiance of his self-imposed fate," wrote Max Wyman. Now, after a four-year absence. Shay Duffin brings Brendan Bchan back to the Centennial Theatre stage. But that's not all--he's also bringing along some new material, which combines his extraordinary gift of die gab with his love of all that is Insh. In The Importance of Being Irish, Shay lakes us on a journey through the Dublin of his youth, introducing us to some of the more colourful characters he encountered, and reminding us of the richness of Irish literature. This production was first performed in 1990, and Shay's success as a compelling actor and storyteller has been well documented everywhere it has played. As Being Irish is a jaunty, two-hour tour-deforce, as irreverently hilarious as the best stand-up comedy routines. And in its sheer Irishness, it's full of lilting life and love." And so. for all die people who called the theatre asking when Shay would be back, he is coming August 17th. Confessions of an Irish Rebel and The Importance of Being Irish will run in repertory until September 4th. Tickets are $15 and will go on sale at the Centennial Theatre box office July 7th.
