And this is how we have lived it for the past 19 years. Painting has been and is our work and our life--even our licence plate, with a dual play on words, reads L V E A R T . Bringing art and people together is an aspect of essential importance in the feeling and knowing of human wholeness. We honour the nature of the triangular relationship between the viewer, the painting and the artist, affirming the exchange in the tradition of the Atelier and Artist Salon. In this context, our annual Open Studios Exhibition presents a welcomes opportunity to reaffirm this special connection with the public. It's a fun time! These open exhibitions are points of collective celebration and access to our creative spaces, processes, lives and artwork. People always joke that we obviously don't paint together since our studios are far from one another at opposite ends of the house, one up and one down, but that we meet together in the centre of the house where our bed is conveniently located in the spacious gallery room surrounded only by paintings and a view of the ocean and city lights. Artistic licence repeals itself in many forms. From extensive journeys in the studio of the world and years of internal wanderings, our life experiences have been instrumental in our self evolvement as artists and form a rich wellspring for our present creative explorations and expressions. After many years as Ontario-based artists, in 1987 we moved with our two young children, Corey and Rhea, to British Columbia and set up our studios and gallery in a home in West Vancouver. Restricting location shooting to such a small area on a contemporary dramatic production is an unusual decision, but one to which Northwood producer Nick Orchard is committed.
