Community Arts Councils are the real movers and shakers in the art world. The success of our local arts councils is based on a couple of firm convictions. First, the arts are an important part of people's lives. Second, there are hundreds of dedicated volunteers from the local community. And finally, your secret weapon - you don't believe in the phrase, "That's impossible!". I have only been at Presentation House since July but I have completely adopted your successful formula in my planning process. In the year to come, the staff and I will be: working on the Regional Facilities Planning Study, concentrating on raising our community profile, hosting a four day Open House, setting up informative displays at local malls, revamping our volunteer program and most importantly, I personally will be hanging a sign above my desk reminding me that -- "nothing is impossible". » Brigitte O'Rooney Administrative Director Presentation House New Focus The following excerpts are from presentations made at the North Vancouver Community Arts Council Annual General Meeting, September 17,1991. Partnerships with others, with similar goals, is one way that has made great sense to me. So, I am particularly excited to be working for the North Shore Arts Commission, which was created as a result of partnerships and whose mandate includes facilitating similar connections. Partnerships assume that we w i l l complement, not duplicate, each others' activities. What I hope to add to the talent mix that exists on the North Shore is my Page 3 I
