N O R T H VANCOUVER COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL M a n y members of the N o r t h Vancouver Community Arts Council will remember and miss the valuable presence and contribution made by the late Percy Paull of the Squamish Indian Band. M r . Paull was one of the founding directors of the N . V . C . A . C . in 1969 and could always be counted on to represent his people, especially native artists and craftsmen of this area - many of whom were first taught carving by Percy. He was C o - C h a i r m a n with Anne Macdonald for ten years (during the 1970's) of the well known FRIENDSHIP T H R O U G H A R T exhibitions held every other year i n the Longhouse on the Squamish Indian Reserve. In 1980 he approached our Board of Directors for assistance with the restoration of Saint Paul's Indian Church on the Mission Reserve i n N o r t h Vancouver. This war the Cultural Services Branch in Victorin has moved the application deadline for Arts Councils to a nu>nth earlier than last year. a mammoth task in coordinating the whole project along with Percy Paull, the directors of the Squamish Indian Band Council and the whole community. For her efforts in the project, Yvonne Schmidt was awarded the Gabrielle Léger Heritage Medal from Heritage Canada - Percy Paull was one of her nominators. Mr. Paull's efforts and caring for the North Shore community was invaluable and will be keenly missed.
