It has been a pleasure to be involved with the North Shore Arts N e w s from its conception. It seems like only yesterday, that Norma Sagar, L y n n Flipse, E l l a Parkinson and myself, through the urging of the two North Shore Arts C o u n c i l s , gave birth to the concept of our newsletter. Those of y o u , w h o received the North Shore Arts N e w s , are familiar with the fact, that the look o f the N S A N has been i m p r o v i n g with every issue. It has been the feeling o f the executive boards o f the A r t s C o u n c i l s that a further improvement i n the look o f the Newsletter was needed to reflect even more the c o m mitment o f our communities to the Arts. One o f first things that you w i l l notice is that we have changed the name and the design of the cover of our publication. " A r t s A c c e s s " is the name o f the television art show that is produced together by the two North Shore Arts C o u n c i l s . It is a name that reflects the spirit o f communication between the arts community, the A r t s C o u n cils and the public at large. The other elements we are trying to i m - In this issue: We continue our tradition of featuring prominent and also emerging North Shore artists, this time the well known painter and teacher: K i f f H o l l a n d . E v e n though K i f f doesn't need introduction to many North Shore art lovers, we are certain that you w i l l find the profile by our newest contributing writer, Anne M c L a u g h l i n , very interesting and revealing. W e also highlight the work of Barbara Bartholomew, a local photographer. Since the B . C . Festival o f the Arts is going to take place in North V a n c o u v e r in May this year, we are trying to supply you with as much information as possible on thecenter page of this issue. There are many events that have not been scheduled yet, so keep an eye out for further details i n the local media or call for information at the phone numbers listed i n the articles. A l s o i n this issue you w i l l find our regular reports on what is happening i n the areas of music, dance, theater crafts and visual arts. For your convenience every page has a header, so you can find the things that interest you easier. prove is the general page layout, clarity of information and readability. It is our hope that you w i l l find the new look pleasing and refreshing. Last but not least we have i m p r o v e d our circulation from 1800 copies to 3000 for this issue and w i l l try for 5000 in the future. T h i s is in response to our advertisers and the general public w h o suggested that there are just not enough issues to go around. O u r circulation volunteers, Berit D o l d e n and Christine E n g l a n d , work very hard to distribute our publication to places where they w i l l be read by most people. In closing I w o u l d like to emphasize that the Arts Access belongs to y o u , the c o m m u nity, and we welcome and need your input to make this newsletter as good as possible. Marius I.
