OPPORTUNITIES T H E A R T BANK The Art Bank was created in 1972 by the Canada Council to complement its programs of grants to artists. The Bank provides recognition for and direct assistance to professional Canadian artists through purchase of their work; presenting contemporary Canadian art to the public in everyday environments through a rental program and special projects, as well as through the loan of works from its collection to public galleries and museums. The nature of the work of art determines the procedures used by the Art Bank in the purchase of works. Works are purchased for the Bank on the recommendation of continuously changing juries, whose members are appointed by the head of the Art Bank. Juries are composed primarily of artists' peers; recognized professionals who are respected within the visual arts community. Artists and galleries must request that work be considered for purchase; the Art Bank does not initiate contact. There is no limit to the number of times artists or galleries may submit, be visited or purchased from, however, the Art Bank receives a large number of requests for visits, and that competition is rigorous. For a copy of the Submission Procedures or further information, contact Marianne Heggtveit, Purchase Programs Officer, at (613) 598-4359. Station to station calls are accepted by the Canada Council Art Bank.
