discovered, confirming that rebuilding the Lodge rather than restoring it had been the right decision. A trench was dug for the new utility lines, opening up the possibility of a two-season (winter, summer) operation. Due to an unexpected problem regarding the issuing of building permits, construction was halted during the summer months, delaying the opening of the renewed lodge that had been set for December 26, 2015, before the first snow fell in the late fall, the footings and framing had been completed. Plywood panels had been installed on the sides and roof. It is now anticipated that construction of the renewed lodge will resume in mid-April, if the access road is clear of snow. The official opening is now set for July 1, 2016. all photos courtesy of Don Grant more photos in Extras section - West Vancouver Stories a new project - by Laura Anderson If you remember the years "before the bridge", when West Vancouver was almost an island, connected by ferries and by the Capilano River bridge; if you remember the privations of the Great Depression, World War II at home and on the battlefront; if you remember the post-war prosperity that built our homes and schools and supported local businesses in West Vancouver; we invite you to share your memories.
