2nd Annual Seymour Arts Festival The Seymour Art Gallery presents the 2nd Annual Seymour Arts Festival, a community celebration spanning five weeks - each with a nature-inspired theme. The gallery will showcase a broad range of potters, painters, poets, woodworkers, weavers, sculptors, glass artists, writers, textile artists and musicians. Artist's demonstrations will highlight each week. Week One: Earth features the paintings of Steve Horvat who has been involved with the festival from the idea stage and says, "There is so much that can happen, with the creativity of the community." He encourages artists to "put forth their Ideas and realize they have a stage to perform on." Drawing on inspiration from the Harmony Arts Festival he believes "With the collective energy and ideas of the community the future is wide open as to where this (the festival) can go," and how it can grow. Other artists include: Maria Lange, Colleen Cosgrove, Nigel Henderson, Maggie Witzsche, Dorothy Doherty, Elizabeth Harris Nichols. Week Two: Air includes the work of Tina Richter who says, "Art is like music in that it can convey any type of emotion and can generate an immediate reaction." In addition to painting with watercolours and oils, she enjoys the craftsmanship of printmaking. Tina depicts scenes, which have evoked a reaction from her, and attempts to articulate those emotions to the viewer. Also featured are: Lorraine Seibold, Branda Cross, John Steil, Kathy Nash, Jochen Schleissler, Sydney Fitzpatrick. Week Three: Fire brings to light Chi Cheng Lee's jewellery collection that she describes as, an extension of her thoughts, ideas and an appreciation for beautiful things. Her art Is an outlet to express her passion for creating fun wearable art "to share with everyone and everyday." Other artists include: Pat de Couto, Gloria Stephens, Gail MacKenzie and more. Week Four: Water uncovers Mary Ann Tatelshi's "underpainting and painting." She challenges the viewer to see all the work that goes into each one. Her process includes "a series of paintings, one on top of the other." After completing 15 to 20, she begins to tear them back, and "create an excavation of the work." She will sometimes add a layer on top, eventually adding a final layer of resin making the work more translucent. Week Five: Spirit incorporates the work of Liz de Beer, pottery studio manager at Parkgate Community Center. Liz remains true to African tradition with a preference for simple, unglazed (on the outside) earthenware vessels. She combines oxides to produce striking coloration on the raw clay and uses a variety of different techniques to achieve unique results. Liz has a passion for the medium and her love of the process is evident in her work. She sees herself as "a clay artist" rather than a production potter. Also featured are: Gail Hanlon / Meg Troy, Karen Ireland, Barb Mathews, Amona Ra, Vjecko Sager, Nell Burns.
