Elizabeth paid what was meant to be a short visit to B.C. over 25 years ago, and has been a resident of the North Shore ever since. McLaren says she had always wanted to go to arts school but her mother encouraged her to take a more practical route. She has now retired from a high-pressure corporate career and is fulfilling her dream of being a full-time artist, devoting an average of five hours a day, five days a week to her studio work. She Is also involved in mentoring burgeoning artists, and dedicated to community service, particularly In the arts and culture fields. The Past President of the North Vancouver Community Arts Council, having served on the Board for 8 years, McLaren Is currently In her second three-year appointment as Commissioner on the North Vancouver Recreation Commission where she sits on several committees, Including the District of North Vancouver Public Art Advisory Committee. Also active in athletics, McLaren is past President of Capllano A walk in McLaren's garden of floral paintings promises to be an uplifting experience. The show opens February celebrates the Vernal Equinox, and runs until March 25. Nature and the outdoors inspire McLaren. She enjoys hiking the trails of the North Shore where she often puts herself, quite literally, Into the picture by sketching and painting her surroundings. "Wherever my art leads me I am thankful to pursue its every-changing challenge." Born and educated in Dunedin, New Zealand, Elizabeth studied art with H.V. Miller.
