Reflecting o n the stories 1 have heard about the o l d t r a n s p o r t a t i o n method of l o g riding, my design theme is a tribute to one o f N o r t h Vancouver's early w o r k i n g traditions...in p o r t r a y i n g the e q u i l i b r i u m o f forces between rider, the l o g a n d the water, a very d y n a m i c sculptural structure of lines a n d forms is created. M a d e of the same material and colour, the narrative sculpture w i l l become a friendly a n d playful three d i m e n s i o n i d e o g r a m . " - Carlos 6 November Five h u m a n figures, made from t u b u l a r steel, find their balance a n d attempt to " r i d e " the logs d o w n a flume. F o l l o w them d o w n the h i l l , m o v i n g from right to left, a d y n a m i c sculpture o f time a n d m o v e m e n t . T h e stylized figures also seem to p r o v i d e a more w h i m s i c a l a l l u s i o n to s k a t e b o a r d i n g y o u t h , t r y i n g out their moves. T h i s w o r k c o m m u n i cates a deeply felt sense o f place across the generations. In the fall o f 2 0 0 5 " R a v e n s i n flight" w i l l be installed i n a W i n d r i d g e drive development. Three oversized ravens cast i n anodized a l u m i n u m a n d set aloft on a n d é s i t e stone c o l u m n s o f various heights, move playfully a r o u n d each other in a s w i r l i n g breeze. T h e c o m p o s i t i o n is designed as a l i v i n g kinetic sculpture. Robertson's w o r k d r a w s from his First N a t i o n s (Gitksan) a n d E u r o / C a n a d i a n ancestry, a n d explores the historical and c o n t e m p o r a r y d y n a m ics o f these relationships.
