O n O c t o b e r 1st, artists and supporters of the arts gathered at N o r t h Vancouver District H a l l to acknowledge the achievements of N o r t h Shore artists, to celebrate the wonderful diversity of artistic talent in the c o m m u n i t y and to raise funds to continue to support this talent. Since 1995, the F u n d for the Arts on the N o r t h Shore ( F A N S ) has recognized local artists w h o have achieved national acclaim in their field. The a w a r d is available to artists in any discipline w h o have a substantial and recognized body of w o r k . T h i s year's honourees were visual artist Ross Penhall, lifelong resident of the N o r t h Shore, and X w a - l a c k - t u n , (Rick H a r r y ) , Squamish N a t i o n artist and carver. Poet Russell T h o r n t o n received the D o n S. W i l l i a m s A w a r d . T h i s cash a w a r d is intended to assist a w o r k i n g artist to progress in his/her chosen field. The stunning visual arts e x h i b i t i o n included w o r k s by many F A N S a l u m n i . A s usual, there was plenty of socializing and a wonderful array of food and beverages to enjoy. Guests were entertained by L u k e Z a w a d i u k and Luke K i m on violin and cello, the local band Lotus, and guitarist E m a d A r m o u s h . With the 2005 event behind them, they are already beginning to think about next year. A n y resident of the N o r t h Shore can nominate artists for future consideration.
