H e is a s e c o n d ary s c h o o l m u s i c specialist a n d still teaches o c c a s i o n a l l y in schools. B r o c k has p e r f o r m e d with the O k a n a g a n Valley s y m p h o n y orchestra, o c c a s i o n a l l y c o n d u c t s the W h i t e R o c k c o m m u n i t y orchestra, a n d is i n v o l v e d with the local c h u r c h choir. H i s new school seeks to encourage an approach to music making that recognizes self expression and group presentation as more than art forms. T h e y provide the opportunity for h u m a n interaction. A collaborative teamwork approach teaches skills that will transfer to many other aspects of life. Learning music through shared cultural expression teaches sensitivity a n d understanding. " - Karen Kazmer T h i s secure gateway between baseball d i a m o n d backstops is c o n s t r u c t e d from fence m a t e r i a l , c h a i n l i n k a n d g a l v a n i z e d steel poles. A b s t r a c t c o l o u r e d shapes, attached to the fencing a n d b a c k s t o p s , are c o m p a t i b l e w i t h the p a r k s g a l v a n i z e d fencing. T a k e n into a c c o u n t are the u n i q u e features o f the e n v i r o n m e n t a n d site l o c a t i o n . O n c e a l a n d f i l l , the discarded debris o f d a i l y life remains buried u n d e r g r o u n d . A b o v e g r o u n d a c o r k screw m o v e m e n t i n the design l i n k s different levels. L a y e r i n g a n d t e x t u r i n g , swirls a n d trajectories reflect current s p o r t i n g activities in the p l a y i n g fields. T h e c o l o u r s i n the design are said to vary at different times of d a y a n d w i t h c h a n g i n g weather patterns. Immortalised in c o l o u r e d glass are nine large l u m i nous sculptures o f dragonflies a n d damselflies w i t h exotic names like, L e u c o r h i n i a a n d Tampernexclose. W a l l s o f glass d r a w nature into the interior a n d soaring wings a d d d r a m a t i c presence. These glorious pieces, strategically placed w i t h i n the w i n d o w frames, are affixed to the interior glazing o f the "great r o o m " o f the park centre. North Vancouver Museum/Archives Project (2006) Paul Slipper T h e o r i g i n a l L y n n V a l l e y elementary s c h o o l b u i l d i n g is being extensively redesigned to house the relocated archives. L o c a l stone sculptor P a u l Slipper w a s c o m missioned to design a site specific sculpture. T h e w o r k w i l l consist o f a series o f oversized irregular b o o k stacks located at various points a r o u n d the p l a n n e d plaza area.
