This a n n u a l is t h e y e a r ' s important performance event for the Junior a n d Senior Choirs the under the direction of M r s . Frances Jazz Bands under Roberts, Junior a n d Senior the direction of M r . K e n Österreicher. It is a l s o a f a b u l o u s e v e n i n g o f m u s i c a l entertainment, dining a n d dancing for everyone. A r g y l e S c h o o l h a s a w o n d e r f u l r e p u t a t i o n in m a n y areas, a n d o n e o f t h e b e s t is t h e i r m u s i c p r o g r a m . F r a n c e s R o b e r t s a n d K e n Österreicher h a v e g r a d u a l l y built this p r o g r a m u p f o r m a n y years a n d n o w 4 8 0 students - one-third o f t h e total school p o p u l a t i o n - are involved in m u s i c in a variety of ways. T h e r e a r e c o n c e r t b a n d s a n d c h o i r s i n G r . ' s 8, 9 , a n d 1 0 , s e n i o r b a n d , s e n i o r c h o i r , j u n i o r j a z z b a n d s a n d c h o i r s ( f o r G r . 9's a n d 10's), s e n i o r j a z z b a n d a n d c h o i r (Gr. 11's a n d 12's) a n d a s e n i o r v o c a l e n s e m b l e . This n u m b e r of involved s t u d e n t s in s u c h a variety of classes requires a m a z i n g timetable flexibility a n d calls f o r l o n g days, physical a n d m e n t a l t o u g h n e s s , p a t i e n c e , a basic liking of teenagers sense of h u m o u r ! a n d , probably most important, a a l w a y s , t h e s t u d e n t p e r f o r m e r s w i l l i n t e r p r e t t h e t h e m e in their From h u m b l e b e g i n n i n g s in t w o small, i n a d e q u a t e side r o o m s with a tiny office, to their current "home" in a newly Argyle's a g y m will canopy be transformed a n d stage for the evening, many with dramatic backdrop, candle-lit own costumes for the event, with dazzling and s o m e t i m e s hilarious results. renovated school wing complete with separate rooms for b a n d a n d c h o i r , a n o f f i c e a n d 3 p r a c t i c e r o o m s , t h i s p r o g r a m is a true story of perseverance a n d belief. Next year some innovative n e w courses are being e x p l o r e d such as tables of varying sizes, a n d tropical b e a c h , l a g o o n a n d jungle d e c o r a t i o n s e v o k i n g t h e S o u t h Pacific island t h e m e . Following a s u c c e s s f u l i n n o v a t i o n a t last y e a r ' s C a b a r e t , a s m a l l g r o u p o f enthusiastic, dedicated students (with s o m e assistance from their m o m s ) have again a s s u m e d responsibility for conceiving, e x e c u t i n g a n d i n s t a l l i n g a l l t h e d e c o r a t i o n s . M a n y p a r e n t s are digital c o m p o s i t i o n a n d editing. In e v e r y s e n s e it is a s h i n i n g m o m e n t f o r t h e m a n d u n f o r g e t t a b l e for the audience. course catered dinner w i t h a choice of 4 entrees plus moderately priced wine, (mostly tropical-themed), beer a n d n o n - a l c o h o l i c b e v e r a g e s , d a n c i n g a n d d o o r prizes. For $ 3 0 per person this is o n e o f t h e b e s t evenings of musical e n t e r t a i n m e n t o n t h e N o r t h S h o r e , a n d it is o f t e n a s e l l o u t . Traditionally, the t h e m e of t h e C a b a r e t night relates t o t h e d e s t i n a t i o n f o r that year's major trip by t h e senior b a n d a n d choir. T h e i r trip t o H a w a i i in late M a r c h , t o p a r t i c i p a t e in t h e Pacific Basin M u s i c Festival, w a s t h e i n s p i r a t i o n f o r this year's tropical island t h e m e and the name "Paradise Club".
