portrait | by Peggy Stortz Earth and Fire: The Elements of the Ceramic Artist worked. Although she delights in the finished products of her art, it is the process that moves her most. "The process is more powerful than the result. That's where the power lies." Lately Aroeste's work has become more conceptual. She enjoys working with repetition. "I start with one shape and the second one is slightly different. I want to see where that leads me." She is also creating multi-panel installations. "I like to work big and in ceramics, you can't do that." Combining several smaller pieces into one work of art allows her to make those big pieces. Creating big pieces requires big space. Aroeste shares studio space with several other artists at 1000 Parker Street in East Vancouver. This month, she will be participating in the Eastside Cultural Crawl on November 21 -23, a huge exhibition of artists in several venues.
