balanced Red, try the 2001 San Giorgio Sanglovese from the estate vineyard of Di Majo Norante, located in Mollse, on the Adriatic coast of southern Italy. While the 2002 and 1998 vintages received the best reviews, the 2001 definitely holds it's own and is well suited to a bistro style menu. Chef Figg Downey's Wild Salmon and Tomato chowder was a wonderful recipe infused with the flavor of basil and generous pieces of fresh salmon. The chowder was followed by a classic Caesar salad and a spinach salad with strawberries, chevre, and candied pecans in a wine vinaigrette. not Both salads were crisp, fresh, and overly dressed. The main course was the rack of lamb cutlets, atop garlic mashed potatoes, finished off with crisp asparagus and a madeira-peppercorn reduction. The mashed potatoes, while a common accompaniment did nothing to detract from the best dish of the evening. Chefi's is a place where you can spend time with friends over great food and wine in an atmosphere that is cozy, inviting and nestled in one of the quaintest villages in the lower mainland.
