Seymour Art Gallery Welcomes a New Curator Jacquie M o r g a n ' s w h o l e life led her to w h e r e she is today. On A p r i l 1 st she s t e p p e d into her n e w position as curator at the Seymour Art Gallery, exactly ten years since C a r o l e Badgley first t o o k on this role. But w h a t w a s the path that led her here? | by Peggy Stortz From there, Morgan became gallery assistant to Ruth Payne at the Ferry Building, expanding her connections into West Vancouver. Next she worked on promotion with Bill MacDonald at Artists for Kids Trust. The North Vancouver School Board then hired her to coordinate the "Learning Through the A r t s " program. Morgan has also taught art privately in her own home Before w o r k i n g as a freelance c o m m e r c i a l artist both In Ontario a n d BC, M o r g a n studied art at Central Tech a n d York University in Toronto. W i s h i n g to pursue the fine arts a g a i n in the Vancouver area, she a t t e n d e d C a p i l a n o College, S i m o n Fraser University a n d Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. Over the years, her studies have included dance, theatre arts, fine arts, c o m m e r c i a l art and film. as well as through a variety of North Shore community arts organizations. Becoming curator at the Seymour Gallery is a natural step for Jacquie M o r g a n . The many pieces of her life have come together at last and she is bursting with ideas and possibilities. She will maintain the standards and traditions already established at the gallery, especially the ever-popular discovery exhibition. Then, building on Badgley's successes, she plans to Then marriage a n d m o t h e r h o o d b e c a m e her focus for m a n y years. In time, w h e n she realized that creating kept her alive, M o r g a n began to paint a g a i n . Through the North Vancouver Arts Council (NVAC), she h e l d an e x h i b i t i o n at North Vancouver's City Hall. She t h r e w herself into the North Shore arts c o m m u n i t y as an artist, a volunteer a n d eventually p r o g r a m director with the N V A C . increase community participation at the Gallery and work in tandem with other galleries and arts groups on the North Shore and beyond. " A l l arts are a w o n d e r f u l celebration of life, of o u r h u m a n existence. It's really important to me for artists and the c o m m u n i t y to be c o n n e c t e d . " May | June
