There is a core group of about ten members w h o form the executive and manage the business of the society. Each fall, the membership swells when auditions are held for the next performance. The fees help cover the costs of the production. Members also build the set, make the costumes and promote the show. Rumour has it that the cast parties are heaps of fun with awards for the best bloopers during the run. Over the years, the Society has made great contributions to the local arts community. Besides u n d e r t a k i n g the annual musical presentations, they have e n c o u r a g e d many amateur artists to develop their musical talents, providing them with the opportunity to appear in musical and dramatic performances. Through their consistent presence in the North Shore arts scene, they have fostered public interest in music in all its forms. As w e l l , they have been generous in their support for various charitable organizations. This was an important part of the society's original mandate and they plan to resume that practice as soon as that little engine gets up over the crest of the mountain.
