It is staged in repertory with the rousing historical drama Henry K which is directed by Bard's Artistic Director Christopher Gaze and stars Scott Bellis as the inspirational young King. The rarely-staged epic adventure Cymbeline, directed by website - wwww.bardonthebeach.org - or call the Bard Box Office at 604.739.0559 When he was approached to play the role of Feste the clown in Twelfth Night, Alessandro proposed to director Dean Paul Gibson that he write the music for Feste's lyrical songs. Dean took a chance on him and the rest simply fell into place for this talented young actor and musician. Twelfth Night is a deliciously funny story of confused identity, misplaced affections and unrequited love. Bard's staging is set in the 1500's and Alessandro wanted to evoke the mood of that era through the music, but without restricting the sound to a specific period. The result is a tender mix of old Elizabethan lute songs with subtle gypsy and Spanish flavours. This global and timeless musical tone suits the minstrel-like character of Feste, who has undoubtedly been influenced by the many travels he has enjoyed. When asked how he feels about his compositions taking center stage at Bard, Alessandro modestly replied, "My hope is that the music will do justice to these much revered words." In the case of Shakespeare, this can be an especially daunting task, but there is no doubt that Alessandro can meet the challenge euphoniously.
