Cover story Traces J n May, the exhibition at the Pohjanmaan Traces, previewed at Capilano College's Studio Art Gallery in March, opens Steven Rathje and Bonnie Jordan. they touch on to make photo- Museum in Vaasa, Finland. It shows the work of Edmonton artist Dixon, and two North Vancouver artists, Marja-Leena with continuity and transformation A preoccupation ties the show together, even though the three achievement, considering technique of photogravure artists work in different media. This consistency based prints documenting is a considerable such diverse periods of time. Dixon uses the nineteenth-century photo-derived images of ancient inscriptions, the inside of a disused mine, which the earth is slowly reclaiming. Rathje etches sculptures, and land formations, allowing the etching process to imitate the effects of age and weather. Jordan uses the layering capabilities of Photoshop to explore a personal mythology which combines ancient motifs with found objects and things she has created, all "overlapping, exposing, and concealing information." Rathje and Jordan talked to Arts Alive's Michael Boxall about their work and how they approach it. 8 May | June
