Women from the St Stephen's congregation in West Vancouver come together once a year to chop and stir the aromatic ingredients of the spicy mincemeat on sale at their fair, December 1,10:30 - 1:30 pm. Christmas cakes will be offered for the second year in a row. For centrepieces and wreaths, the greenery stall is the place to go. Entertainment will be provided by Celesta Women's Choir of West Vancouver. The crafts are courtesy the Ten Thousand Villagers organization. The items come from Mexico, Singapore and other places where the money from the sales is later directed. For classy artistic items, visit the displays at public galleries. This year, instead of the annual Cornucopia of crafts, Seymour Art Gallery is holding an art show for children. The fair at North Shore Neighbourhood House, Saturday, November 24,12-4 pm, is another juried event that boasts door prizes, entertainment, a concession and a Victorian Tea Room. After its success last year, Delbrook Recreation Centre will once again be offering a four-day event, split over two weekends: November 17-18 and December 8-9. Local schools also put on Christmas sales. The annual affair at Brooksbank Elementary is slated for December 6. The Children's Fair, November 24 at the Vancouver Waldorf School, boasts storytelling, music and many other activities that make it very popular with a younger crowd that is still enchanted with the magic of Christmas. What with the gross commercialism of the Christmas season, it's easy to become cynical and start to dread shopping chores.
