Drama and Agriculture: Strange Bedfellows One may not think of agriculture as an inspiration for drama. But AgAware BC believes that it's fertile ground for actors, writers and directors to plant creative seeds. As part of AgFest 2001, they are looking for stories about the human side of agriculture for their first AgriDrama competition. Theatre groups may chose to dramatize a light-hearted family story or tackle more serious issues like globalization and food security. AgAware BC coordinator Nico Human believes that the soil is the birthplace of countless stories of joy and sorrow, of hardship and triumph. Entries will be judged from live performances made in the community and submitted on VHS video tape, by September 15. Three provincial winners will be awarded cash prizes of $250 each and a certificate. One overall winner will receive the Golden Rooster Award at a gala held on October 12 at the North Vancouver's Centennial Theatre. Entry forms and information are available on the AgAware website, www.agaware.bc.ca, under the community menu or by calling (604) 924-4804. 7th Annual Garden Sculpture Show Michael and Michelle Binkley have found a lovely way to combine their artistic talents of sculpture and garden design. Each spring they open their private multi-leveled garden to the public. With its unique blend of stone and plants, the garden incorporates principles of Feng Shui with the free flowing flavour of an English country garden. Wander along the meandering paths and marvel at the stunning sculptures strategically arranged amongst the trees, shrubs and flowers. A must for art lovers and garden enthusiasts, this year's show will be on May 25, 26 and 27 from 11-5 each day at 535 East First Street in North Vancouver. For information call 984-8574 or visit www.binkleysculpture.com. A Photographic Tribute to Pierre Elliot Trudeau Rod Maclvor was just doing his job for United Press International when he photographed former Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau and his family. For some reason, he saved all the negatives. "Even 30 years ago," he says, "I knew those negatives were going to be worth something. He (Trudeau) was that kind of man." The Silk Purse Gallery in West Vancouver is honoured to be hosting this exhibition of photographs, which has been travelling across the country, from May 31 to June 24. Prints will be available and partial proceeds from the sales will go to prostate cancer research. The opening reception is a 6pm on May 31. May | June 19
